DESERT ROOFING

Roofing Palm Desert businesses and homes will require a lot of planning.  Homeowners and Business owners want the biggest bang for their buck, and rightfully so.  What are the different types of roofing systems available in the desert, and which one is the best choice?  Typically residential and commercial Palm Desert roofing systems will have Spanish tiling on their roof.  Spanish tiling is a standard look across the Coachella Valley, and it's form and function match quite well with what's considered proper roofing for the area.  The heat rises along the undersides of the clay tiling and dissipates at the very top of the peak which prevents it from being transferred into the home via conduction.  The tiling is quite dense and heavy, so the underlayment is going to have to be reinforced to handle the extra weight.  If the roof can handle the added weight, the home or commercial building will fit in virtually anywhere without looking out of place.  For the real estate value, it would be the most sensible roofing material to install at this time.

Metal roofing in Palm Desert is a rapidly expanding market.  This type of roofing works well in the desert too.  It has the material properties and design to dissipate heat quite well, and it is substantially lighter in weight than clay tiling.  Most contractors advise using this material because of its life expectancy and super low maintenance characteristics.  The aesthetics of metal roofing is starting to pick up in popularity, but it doesn't have that same acceptance appeal that Spanish Tiling has quite yet.  However, there are a few manufacturers of roofing products that make terra cotta metal roofing that looks virtually the same as the Spanish tiling, but they sell for a fraction of the price and as previously mentioned, weighs substantially less.  Definitely should consider this as an option based on the decor and surroundings of your home or building.  The warranty alone for these products make it well worth the consideration.

Foam roofing in Palm Desert has been quite popular on a lot of valley desert roofs.  It's super easy to install by spraying a foam membrane across the entire roof.  This foam helps reflects sunlight and insulates your home or business to keep the air conditioning inside the building for a more extended period.  This style of roofing typically doesn't last as long as most of the others, but it does appear to be a viable option because of its thermal properties and low cost of repair.  If you have the money to spend, it would be advised to go with another option for roofing material because the heat will break down the structural integrity of this material much quicker than other roofing mediums.

Asphalt shingling in Palm Desert is perhaps the most common type of roofing found on residential homes.  This material is easy to replace and install but is not the best thermal material to have on your home.  There is no design to the shingle tabs to remove heat from your home, and being flat to the roof means that the hot desert heat from the sun is transferred directly to your home's attic.  If having asphalt shingling is the desired roofing material, be sure to consider getting a lighter color shingle to help reflect the Coachella Valley heat.

Although Slate and Cedar Shake are seen from time to time, they're not going to be the best option for roofing due to the high heat and primarily stucco building attributes.  Many roofing contractors will put in whatever type of material the customer requests without question, but the best contractors will explain and educate the home or business owner on the pros and cons of each kind of system they offer.  Coachella Valley doesn't typically see the massive thermal expansion like the neighboring states to the north, but the most significant battle is the relentless heat distortion and damage caused by using a lot of these roofing materials.  The next problem is high wind levels, but we don't typically get as bothered by the wind like the folks up in Desert Hot Springs.  Always ask for the roofing material that has the best thermal properties and longest lifespan or warranty.

Most companies that operate in a commercial building have flat roofs.  It is not recommended to use the flat rubber roofing in Palm Desert because it can cause your electric bill to skyrocket.  The black rubber absorbs the heat better than anything else on the market.  Since it's typically torched down to the roof using a torch down method, the rubber is making an even more solid connection with your roof, allowing that heat to conduct into your building very quickly.  The primary goal for torch down roofing is to keep the rain out and has virtually no design characteristics to keep the heat out.  Always inspect your roof annually or have a professional come out and inspect the roof for you.  You will save so much more money by checking for the small problems and having them fixed before it becomes a significant expense that is often not planned.  Take care of your roof, and your roof will take care of your building and business.
